Cosmic Voids and Void Galaxies
Michael Vogeley (Drexel)
Cosmic voids provide a unique laboratory for studying structure
formation in the universe. Multiband photometry and spectroscopy of
galaxies in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey allow detailed study of the
few galaxies that reside in very low density regions. High-resolution
N-body/hydro simulations and semi-analytic modelling provide
predictions for the properties of void galaxies. I will discuss
methods of identifying voids in galaxy redshift survey data,
properties of void galaxies in the SDSS, and compare these results
with the theoretical predictions. I will also discuss new methods for
simulating cosmic voids and the galaxies within them.
